TRADITIONS & CULTURE OF RIBATEJO

 

Day 1 :

 

• Arrival at Lisbon Airport and transfer to Quinta do Pilat, at the heart of Henrique Abecasis Lusitano Stud - 6 pm.

• Welcome at Quinta do Pilar, with a tipical portuguese homemade dinner, hosted by the breeder, where some information about the trail will be passed to the riders.

• Transfer to Casa do Alfaro, a beautiful local rural house, to overnight.

Day 2:

 

• Transfer to Quinta do Pilar. We will begin with a visit to the stud, including the mares’ parks. There will be an explanation of the different aspects of Luitano breeding.

• Riding on horseback from Quinta do Pilar through the forests and vineyards surrounding the studfarm. An opportunity for horse and rider to get acquainted, while enjoying the wonderful countryside and preserved nature of the region.

• At the end of the morning trail, arrival to the local winery « Casal da Fonte » for a wine tasting A typical local delicacy, “Torricado”, will be prepared on site..

• In the afternoon, the trail continues arround the studfarm.

• Transfer to Casa do Alfaro to dinner and overnight.

Day 3:

 

• Depart from our pasture in Bafoa, where our herd of mares graze freely with their foals, after a visit to the animals by horse.

• Riding in direction to River Tejo.

• Arrival at the ancient palace of Vala Real. Stop for a picnic lunch by the river.

• After lunch, riding back to Bafoa with transfer to Casa do Alfaro for diner and overnight.

Day 4:

​

• Crossing the river Tagus by boat with visit to the horses’ island. Lunch will be served on board.

• Transfer to Azinhaga. Visit to Quinta da Broa, one of the ancients Lusitano breers.

• Transfer to Golega, the national capital of the Lusitano horse, with a free afternoon to enjoy the village.

• Diner at the restaurant « Lusitanus », with a great view over the riding arena. Overnight at Hotel Villa Reis.

Day 5:

​

• Riding through the Natural Reserve of Paul do Boquilobo, with a stop for a picnic lunch.

• Continue the riding to Quinta da Boavista for diner and overnight.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 6:

​

• Riding through the vineyards at north of Santarem in direction to the town of Ribeira de Santarem, a traditional and historic place.

• Arrival at Santarem, the portuguese capital of gothic. • Lunch at « Taberna do Quinzena ».

• Free afternoon to visit the city.

• Dinner at the city.

• Overnight at Casa da Alcaçova.

Day 7

​

• After breakfast, transfer to Lisbon airport - 9 am.
